Prioritise Health and Educational Needs of Mining Communities
Wacam had a three-day workshop to build the capacity of mining community groups in three District Assemblies to engage their Assemblies in improving health and education within the districts.
The three District Assemblies are Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly and Asutifi North District. Ata Era A. James, District Development Planning Officer of the Asutifi North District, gave a presentation on “Community Participation in Assembly’s Annual Plan” while Stephen Kwabena Dankwah, Budget Analyst of Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly, also gave a presentation on “Sources of Revenue to the MMDAs and Challenges”.Charles Ofori, Policy Analyst for Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) also presented “Promoting the Efficiency of Mineral Royalty Utilization in Ghana”
The project is supported by the International Budget Partnership under the spark project.
The community groups developed action plans by first identifying possible hindrances in engaging their assemblies as well as developing measures to adopt in addressing them.
